About
Springbok grew from nineteenth-century Namaqualand copper-mining activity. A mining enterprise was established on the farm Melkboschkuil in the 1850s and the town of Springbokfontein was laid out in 1862. Copper extraction, transport and regional commerce shaped its early development.
