About
Orania occupies a settlement developed for an Orange River irrigation project. In the early 1990s an Afrikaner community purchased and repurposed the settlement, developing a controversial programme of self-determination. Its history is intertwined with debates about identity, inclusion and constitutional rights in post-apartheid South Africa.
