About
The settlement developed as a colonial administrative centre on the Great Fish River in 1813–1814. Its heritage includes nineteenth-century churches and streetscapes, the life of writer Olive Schreiner and the Cradock Four, whose deaths in 1985 became part of South Africa's anti-apartheid history.
