About
The land on which Jansenville developed was surveyed in 1814 under the name Vergenoegd. Christiaan Ernst Schutte acquired the property in 1820, and Petrus Jacobus Fourie became owner in 1838. Fourie's cultivation along the Sundays River preceded the formal township.
Town history is an evolving local record. Additional archival sources, community accounts and photographs can help improve this article.
