About

William Cary Hobson established Angora goats from imported stock on the farm Martyrsford in 1871. The Noorsveld suited them. Jansenville became a centre of the South African mohair industry, and mohair growers’ organisations are based in the town.

Town history is an evolving local record. Additional archival sources, community accounts and photographs can help improve this article.
