About
During the South African War Jansenville came under military occupation. In January 1901 the volunteer Town Guard and British troops under Captain Gould built a stone fort on the hill north of town. Two blockhouses were also erected, though they no longer survive.
Town history is an evolving local record. Additional archival sources, community accounts and photographs can help improve this article.
