About

Artefacts lists an Anglican church (1894), the market hall and Claremont House / Pagel House (1897), and the magistrate’s court and post office (1898), beside the Wesleyan church of 1882. The Aberdeen heritage-buildings page adds that Artefacts attributes the Anglican church to William White-Cooper, and that published property history names R.C. Logie Junior as the first owner of Claremont House, later Frank Wilke and Wilhelm Pagel’s circus. VASSA notes summarised there describe the market hall as an earlier Cape Karoo Georgian form remodelled for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. Deeds and newspapers are still needed to lock that ownership sequence. Source: Artefacts; Aberdeen Hub — heritage buildings https://aberdeen.townhub.co.za/history/heritage-buildings
